The Quasar-WSANT is our next-generation telecommand, telemetry, and payload-data S-band antenna for SmallSats and CubeSats. Built on proven augmented patch antenna technology with extensive flight heritage, it delivers robust wideband performance across both ITU-R receive and transmit bands in a single, compact unit.
Part of the Quasar product family, WSANT integrates seamlessly with the Quasar-STRX SDR transceiver to provide a complete end-to-end TMTC solution.
The compact, wideband antenna removes the need for two separate antennas for up- and downlink paths and the diplexer option enables improved band-isolation.
This solution is compatible with Bright Ascension Flight Software suite used on AAC Clyde Space spacecraft.
Flexibility
With full ITU-R S-band coverage on both ports, the Quasar-WSANT offers complete freedom in system design. Users can assign uplink and downlink to separate polarizations, or combine operation on a single port using a diplexer. Side-mounted SMP connectors further simplify integration, avoiding intrusion into spacecraft volume and allowing flexible mounting in compact satellite platforms.
Performance
Engineered using flight-proven heritage and our latest innovations, the Quasar-WSANT delivers excellent gain, low axial ratio, and wide beam coverage. This ensures reliable communication links across the complete ITU-R S-band window, supporting demanding mission data and TMTC requirements with high efficiency.
Reliability
The Quasar-WSANT’s compact architecture is based on a single grounded dielectric slab with rugged side-mounted SMP RF ports. With materials and design elements backed by years of spaceflight heritage, the antenna provides dependable performance over mission lifetimes of up to six years, minimizing risk and maximizing mission success.
Applications
- CubeSats and SmallSats requiring reliable S-band TMTC and payload links
- Missions needing compact, wideband, dual-polarization antenna solutions
- Integrated with Quasar-STRX SDR transceiver for a complete Quasar TMTC package
